Top Three Editor’s Pick – Guitar Player Magazine – Dec. 2010 (WD-41+2 Album)

In no particular order I have had the pleasure of working with Tony Levin, Mike Keneally, Stu Hamm, Jeff Platz, Dino JA Deane, Scott Amendola, Pat Mastelotto, Jerry Marotta, Ronan Chris Murphy, LCM, Chris Maresh, Brannen Temple, Dave Laczko, Schroeder, Sylvia Oelkrug, and many more great musicians in Rock and Jazz. I am humbled by the experience.

Old short bio that needs an update but it gives one at least an idea or two. šŸ˜‰

ā€¦goes beyond anything Charlie Parker or Miles Davis did during even the most experimental years of the Be-Bop jazz era, although thereā€™s some of that influence in this album, also. This is as much inspired by other avant-guarde artists such as John Cage, Edgard Varese, George Crumb, or Smegmaā€¦ā€ā€“Dan FiebigerE-Mail music review newsletter.

“Initially Oteri offers a more languid approach that creates mood, something rather lacking among this columnā€™s CDs, with their in-yer-face anxiety to please.ā€ ā€”Stuart Nicholson – JazzTimes

“Jamming with you must be one of the greatest thingsā€”your music sounds great, and it always amazes me how far you can stretch a musical idea. Brilliant!” ā€”Guitarist Enrico Crivellaro

ā€œWhatever is in Willie Oteriā€™s water, I think itā€™s high time that it was poured into the two dimensional cesspool which is what some of the homogenized and pasteurized modern music industry has become today.ā€ ā€”Bruce Stringer (Music street jounal) ā€œThis is one of those CDs that entirely deserves to be heard by anyone who likes to live inside exotically compelling musical environments. Itā€™s rather beautiful too.ā€ā€“Gapplegate Musicā€

Iā€™m pretty much self taught. I learned Jazz and rock on the street. If you are fine with that then we can talk. Iā€™m fine with it. I play guitar, sax and flute, most of time. People mostly wrote about the guitar playing. I think I’m best at flute although I don’t have that much of it out there on recordings. My melodic sense seems to be best tuned to saxophone and for the last 4 or 5 years that was my main focus. Lately I’ve been back to focusing on guitar.

I have had the great fortune to record and perform with amazing people like Scott Amendola, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Ephraim Owens, Jerry Marotta, Mike Keneally, JA Deane, Brannen Temple, Mike Malone, Damon Smith, Jeff Platz, Matt Crane, Chris Tondre, Ronan Chris Murphy, Dave Laczko, Stu Hamm, Chris Maresh and so many others. Itā€™s been a long strange trip and I am humbled by the continuing journey. I was co-host of the monthly series Jazz OUTside for 10 years at Kenny Dorhamā€™s Backyard outdoor venue in Austin TX.
